In 1906, an English inventor in Boston, Massachusetts, wanted to improve the performance of shoes for people who work on their feet every day. William J. Riley was inspired by optimal balance, which he discovered by looking at the chickens in his garden. His first product - a flexible arch support, it was designed with three support points in the shape of a triangle. The three points created more balance and comfort by imitating a chicken foot. With this invention the brand New Balance was founded. The creators and technicians at New Balance are inspired by everything from professional athletes to simple everyday objects or activities. Over the years our goal at New Balance has not changed, and we continue to improve performance. New Balance's innovation continues to be about changing the footprints of racing.
